Cannabis Awareness & Responsible Use

Cannabis affects everyone differently, and knowing what to expect matters more than which strain you pick. This page covers what we think is worth knowing before you buy β€” and our team is always happy to walk you through it in person.

What is cannabis?

Cannabis comes from the cannabis plant, and we sell it as marijuana (weed) or hash. Marijuana is the dried flower of the plant; hash is made by pressing the plant's resin into blocks. THC is the best-known active compound, but terpenes β€” the compounds behind a strain's smell and flavour β€” shape how a product feels too.

Effects, and how long they last

Smoke cannabis and you'll usually feel it within a few minutes, lasting a few hours. Eat an edible and it can take 45 minutes to 2 hours to kick in β€” but the effects often last 4 to 8 hours. Every effect is temporary: given time, it always wears off.

Mental effects

Think relaxation or a lifted mood, sharper senses, and a more active imagination. For some people, cannabis can also bring on restlessness, anxiety, or trouble concentrating.

Physical effects

Think a faster heartbeat, a dry mouth, red eyes, heavy limbs, and a bigger appetite. These effects are harmless, if occasionally uncomfortable.

Mood and setting matter

Your mood and surroundings shape the experience as much as the product does. If you're already not feeling great, cannabis can make that more intense. Try not to use it on an empty stomach, pick a calm setting and company you trust, and keep something to eat and drink nearby.

New to cannabis?

Ask a member of staff for a mild strain. Smoking? Wait a few minutes between puffs before having more. Trying an edible? Don't eat it all at once β€” start with half and wait at least an hour before taking more. Edibles take longer to kick in, so it's easy to underestimate them.

If it doesn't feel good

If someone isn't feeling well after using cannabis β€” sometimes called a "bad trip" β€” just stay calm and stay with them. Fresh air, a quiet spot, and something sweet to drink usually help. It's worth remembering: it always passes.

Know your limits

Never drive or operate machinery after using cannabis. If you have a history of anxiety, panic attacks, or psychosis, talk to a doctor before use, since cannabis can intensify these conditions.

A quick word on cannabinoids

Cannabis contains dozens of active compounds, called cannabinoids. Here are the best-known ones:

THC

The compound behind the "high" feeling cannabis is best known for.

CBD

Non-psychoactive β€” it won't get you high β€” and is often used alongside THC.

CBN

Forms as THC ages, and generally works more mildly than THC.

CBG

One of the lesser-known cannabinoids, usually present in smaller amounts.
